    Two Spirit Camp

    August 18th – 21st, 2017

    Iswewak Ka Yatsik / Pine River, SK

     

     

    OUT on the Land is a Two Spirit, Queer, and Transgender Camp together with traditional Indigenous Knowledge Keepers

    OUT on the Land is a Two Spirit, Queer, and Transgender camp that focuses on traditional Indigenous knowledge while building a relationship to the land. If you want to learn new skills, renew your spirit, and make new friends in a fun, safe, and substance-free space: then this camp is for you!

    ONLY 20 SPOTS, first come first serve
    Applications accepted until August 1st, 2017
    Registration is $25.00 (subsidies available)

    Out of respect for the cultural protocols around medicines, sacred objects, and ceremony, this is a clean and sober camp: meaning we will be drug and alcohol-free.

    This gathering is also a green camp, please no plastic or Styrofoam.
    As well, remember to bring your own feast bag (tea towel, plate, bowl, coffee mug, cup, fork, knife, and spoon) as food will be available throughout the weekend but feel free to bring your own food as well.

    There is no electricity or Wi-Fi at the camp, so please leave your electronics at home

    Itinerary

     

    August 18th: Travel Day / Set Up Day

    -          Set up camp

    -          Pitch the tipis

    -          Build the lodges

    August 18th – 19th: Knowledge sharing days

    Mornings:

    • Opening circle ceremony: greetings and welcome to the Territory
    • Circles of learning and knowledge sharing workshops
    • Healthy relations & self-care opportunities

    Afternoons:

    • Creative and interactive workshops
    • Medicine gather, berry picking, crafting, beading, basket making, and more!

    Evenings:

    • Social relationships: celebrating who we are
    • Sweats, drumming, singing, and talent sharing

    August 20th: Final Day

    -          Feast

    -          Closing prayers

    August 20th – 21st: Travel Home / Take Down

    -          Clean up the land

    -          Travel home

     

     

    Iswewak Ka Yatsik / Pine River Cultural Team for OUT on the Land

     

    Angie Campbell
    Pronouns: she / her

    Angie Campbell is from the La Plonge Reserve – English River First Nation. She is a traditional artist and specializes in beading. Her background in media arts adds a digital element and much beauty while gathering traditional stories and knowledge from her Elders and sharing these teachings with her community. Angie is a community leader with a great interest in helping to achieve health at all levels, so people may live happy and fulfilling lives.

     

    Nap Daigneault
    Pronouns: he / him

    Nap Daigneault is a Metis man from Ile-a-la-Crosse who spends much of his time at his bush camp in Pine River. He is active in various communities helping to teach traditional healing through ceremony. Nap offers counseling and a quiet space in Pine River for people from all walks of life and all age groups to find peace and solitude. Nap shares stories he has learned from his elders and offers teachings around the sweat lodge ceremony.

     

    Fred Campbell
    Pronouns: he / him

    Fred Campbell is from the La Plonge Reserve – English River First Nation. As a teacher and principal for 24 years, he taught traditional skills, art, woodworking, and outdoor education. As a traditional and visual artist, Fred specializes in birch bark basket making. He, with his partner Linda, have raised 4 children and numerous grandchildren while enjoying theirs on their hometown reserve of La Plonge.
