Building OUT! Let's Grow Together

moving_slider.pngOUTSaskatoon builds community for LGBTQ2S+ people of all ages and backgrounds. We provide peer support and counselling, queer-specific education and resources, outreach, social gatherings and events, community referrals, and sexual health services. In addition, we operate Pride Home, a long-term home for LGBTQ2S+ youth ages 16-21. Through these programs OUTSaskatoon supports body, mind and spirit within a growing and changing community.

Throughout the past five years, we have increased our reach by 85% and have expanded our programs to include designated two spirit programming, two different youth groups and an older adults’ group. In 2017, OUTSaskatoon opened Pride Home, Canada’s first long-term group home for LGBTQ2S+ youth from ages 16-21, and Pride Home has already provided safe haven for 14 youth in our community and serves as a national symbol of hope and belonging for the LGBTQ2S+ community.

Executive Director Rachel Loewen Walker states that “OUTSaskatoon’s continued growth is very exciting as it shows that we are in a time and a city where our work is valued and where we are reaching the people that need us most. In light of this growth, I am happy to announce that we are building a new and expanded community centre. Our new space will ensure that we can continue to serve the LGBTQ2S+ community to the best of our abilities.”

OUTSaskatoon’s new home is only 140 meters from our existing location, but enjoys street-level access, has three community spaces, including room for onsite education, will provide expanded LGBTQ2S+ mental and physical health services, and has greater visibility. OUTSaskatoon has already received generous support from Nutrien, to build a new community kitchen, and from the Saskatoon Community Foundation, and we invite you to join us for a sneak peak at the new space, pre-renovation on Saturday, May 25th for our Golden Ticket Party. This event will kick-off our community campaign and help us reach our fundraising goal of $130,000 to complete renovations for our projected August 2019 move-in.

Saskatoon’s LGBTQ2S+ community needs room to grow and to thrive. Join us on Saturday, May 25th for our capital campaign launch party: Uncensored: The Golden Ticket Event
