Happy August friends! I hope you’ve been enjoying the beautiful summer sun these last few months as we’ve truly had a summer to long for. Summer at OUT has been bustling, as usual, we helped with two weeks of the Saskatoon Pride Festival, presented on another strong year at our Annual General Meeting, and now moved into planning and strategizing for a quick-approaching September. We have also had a number of staffing changes as we said farewell to April and Sarah as they both head off to new adventures, and likewise welcomed Jack to the team as our new Cultural and Projects Coordinator.
Though busy, summer is often a good time to take stock of the last year and I chuckled when I read through last summer’s newsletter which mentions Pride Home as a faraway idea. Not so far away, it turns out, as Pride Home has been in operation for six months now and is packed full of five bright-eyed and dynamic LGBTQ2S youth who are finally getting the services and supports they need. If there are lessons we can learn from the speed with which Pride Home got up and running, they are to always be brave and to dream big in the face of community needs.
As we roll into September, we hope you join us for two of our biggest fundraisers. The first is our annual Scotiabank AIDS Walk, taking place on September 10, 2017. Year after year we team up with our friends at AIDS Saskatoon to raise money for safe sex supplies, support groups for people living with HIV, meal programs, and this year to support our new Youth testing clinic. We reached our goal of raising $40,000 last year, so are counting on you to help us raise $45,000 in 2017. We are also hosting a second GLITTER Gala as last year’s soiree was such an absolute success. We hope you can join us on Saturday, October 21st at the Top of the Inn for one of the best parties in town!
